Counselling & Psychotherapy

Isobel Gilvan-Cartwright MBACP

Friendly effective psychodynamic therapist working online, on the phone, and in person.

I provide both short-term, focused counselling and longer-term, in-depth psychotherapy, depending on your individual requirements. My warm, empathic approach helps you to identify recurring patterns and unhelpful inner-narratives, helping you to get to the root of your issues.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy looks at how experiences from early childhood may be affecting your current thoughts and feelings. It enables you to reframe the way you think about your past and experience how this might change how you feel in the present.

I have experience working with adults suffering from a broad range of issues, including (but not limited to): anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationship issues, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, attachment issues, stress, self-harm, work related stress, LGBTQ+ counselling, trauma, bullying, ME, dissociation, low self-confidence, OCD, ADHD, neurodiversity, menopause, family issues, creative blocks, parenting issues.

As a qualified BACP registered counsellor working psychodynamically, I offer a safe and confidential space for our sessions. My Newhaven practice is ten minutes from Newhaven Town train station and bus stop with regular buses from Brighton and Eastbourne. There is on-street parking nearby.

I work as a counsellor for the Rock Clinic Brighton, as a sessional worker for West Sussex Mind's Parenting Support Team, alongside my Private Practice online, with clients in London, and from my cosy therapy room in Newhaven, East Sussex.
